Carey Gable is a stand-up comic, spoken-word performer, storyteller, and occasional threat to turn any stage into a low-rent vaudeville show.

His comedy draws from small-town Texas, aging, relationships, religion, professional wrestling, boxing, old-time physical culture, and the increasingly strange collection of interests that have followed him into middle age.

The result is conversational, autobiographical stand-up with a storyteller’s rhythm, a little noir around the edges, and just enough physical comedy to make things dangerous.

My Descent Into Vaudeville

What starts as stand-up has a tendency to wander.

My Descent Into Vaudeville is an evolving live performance built around the idea that Carey’s life has somehow become more old-fashioned with each passing year. Boxing history, Indian clubs, physical culture, pocket watches, professional wrestling, strange props, old stories, and physical demonstrations gradually invade what began as a perfectly normal comedy set.

Part stand-up. Part storytelling. Part variety act.
