Who I Am

I've spent more than two decades telling stories across genres—crime fiction, plays, poetry, memoir, journalism, spoken word, and nonfiction. My work has appeared in state and national journals, magazines, newspapers, and literary publications. Along the way, I've worked as a music and film critic, sports reporter, professional wrestling writer, radio host, professor, minister, and performer, always drawn to stories where character matters more than polish.

My writing is rooted in Northeast Texas and shaped by the worlds that have influenced me most: professional wrestling, boxing, noir fiction, physical culture, small-town life, and the complicated choices people make when there are no clean answers. Whether writing fiction, memoir, drama, or nonfiction, I'm interested in consequence, endurance, loyalty, and the stories people tell themselves to keep moving forward.

My stage play Is That You, Kilgore Trout? received the Audience Choice Award at the 2025 Pyro's Playfest, and The Perfect Date! was selected for performance at the 2026 festival. My debut noir novel, Smoke 'Em, launched the Cadmus Gale series in 2026 and was described by Charles Ardai, founder of Hard Case Crime, as "a loving tribute to the pulp noir legacy." In the same year, I published The Way to Endure: Old World Training for Modern Life, a reflection on physical culture, capability, and aging inspired by the old-time strongmen, wrestlers, and fighters who believed strength existed to support life rather than consume it.

Beyond the page, I perform spoken word, appear on convention and festival panels, and occasionally step behind a microphone for stand-up comedy. Whether on a stage, at a bookstore, behind a signing table, or in a gym working through a set of Hindu squats, I'm interested in the same thing I've always been interested in: honest stories, flawed people, and the moments that reveal who we really are.
